Penney's Bargains

I absolutely love reading and watching Penney's Hauls on YouTube or via blogs. It must be because everything is so cheap and affordable, and you can really just pick up some great bits in general from Penneys! I headed into town today to treat myself. I am running the Flora Women's Mini Marathon for an animal charity be it the DSPCA, or Collon Animal Sanctuary where we rescued my dog Charlie from. I decided to buy some workout gear and where else to go but Penneys?! Cheap as chips, and they have seriously upped their game of late. Unfortunately they didn't have much variation in the way of colour which is why I didn't get a top. Don't worry, I would never subject people to the sight of myself just in a sports bra and leggings!

1. Water bottle €2
I got myself a fancy shmancy runner's water bottle that you can hold easily in your hand, and look how cheap it was. 2 yo-yos, shure where yould ya be going?
2. Sports bra €6
You gotta give them girls some support. Oh god, once I went to the gym and innocently started my workout as usual but having forgotten my sports bra I attempted to run in a normal bra. Well holy god, did I almost get knocked out by my nunga nungas. Do not try this at home.
3. Yoga Pants €10
While technically yoga pants I will be using these for all gym/running work. They are so soft, I am a bit concerned about the waistband however, not sure if they will be great for running because of slippage.

My next purchase was this fab collapsible jewlery organizer that you can easily hang on the back of a door, in your wardrobe, etc. I was planning on trying to use it to store my makeup somehow but it is definitely more jewlery sized and I discovered I had a lot more jewlery laying around than I actually thought! This is double sided, I have one side filled with earrings, bracelets and necklaces and one side to go.

Look how tidy, neat and organized I am! :)

4. Jewellery organiser €4

Tempted to go back and pick up the handbag organiser also!

5. I saw these shampoo and conditioner recommended by Tara Makeup on Facebook so I said I would pick up the blonde version! €3 for a shampoo AND a conditioner? Come to mama.

6.I also was thinking about getting my unpolished paws on a new nail varnish shade and this lil' baby caught my eye. Minty fresh at €1.50!

I will be posting a review of the nail polish shortly along with one of the shampoo and conditioner. Keep those peepers peeled.

Did you lay your mitts on any dzeadly Penney's bargains of late? To the comments!

Emma's Eco Soy Candles Review

I am an absolute divil for candles so when I came home after a stressful day to find this gorgeous package of goodies waiting for me, it is safe to say I was over the moon.
I had heard about Emma's eco-soy candles via Twitter and other bloggers such as All the buzz had featured them on their blogs previously so I was delighted to test them out.

The beauty behind these candles is that they are all made of completely natural ingredients such as essential oils and soy wax, none of your typical synthetic nasties. This means that they won't cause an artificial overpowering smell and the headaches that can go along with too-sweet scents.

I received a Neroli fusion wax melt which I have burning here beside me in my makeshift oil burner aka a little fondue pot. I adore this scent it is so calming and relaxing.
"A blend of light and precious Neroli blossom and sweet orange oil with a touch of musky lavender: soothing, floral and calming."

I couldn't believe it when I checked the website, the wax melt is retailing at only €4.95, what a fantastic price! There is also free shipping to Ireland. Score!

I also received a Lemon grass 20 hour tin candle. This scent is very citrusy and will energise and awaken you.  It retails at €9.95 and provides you with 20 hours of lemongrass scent. You can purchase Emma's eco soy candles at www.emmas.ie or she also visits various craft/trade fairs so you can find her at one of these:

Upcoming Craft Fairs and Trade Shows in 2014:
Autumn Ideal Home Show RDS: 24-27 October 2014
Weekly at the Old Schoolhouse Market, Laurence Street, Drogheda - Saturdays from Feb 15th.
Castletown House, Celbridge, Co. Kildare: Last Sunday of the month from Sunday March 31st to October, plus their Christmas market on Sunday 7th December.

If you have heard of other Irish brands that are worth a try let me know!
Happy shopping!

Tried & Tested: Perfectil~ Hair Growth Hero?

I recently received a package containing a 3 months supply of Perfectil the skin, hair and nails supplement. Perfectil is said to contain essential nutrients to help maintain healthy skin, hair and nails. This supplement has often been attributed to hair growth as well! So for all you ladies looking to have lovely long locks for summer stay tuned because I will be having a competition soon on my blog to give away a 4 week supply of Perfectil! Head over to Blogging it Beautiful on Facebook  to check it out.

I have had such a hassle with my hair. I chopped it into a bob when I was 15, then I had hair extensions when I was 18 which destroyed my hair. It completely split and broke off on one side of my head, it seems the right side is weaker so I have been looking for a supplement to take as I had to get all of my hair chopped to above my shoulders in order for it to have a chance at healthy growth.

I will do a 1 month and a 2 month update and let you all know how I get on with taking the Perfectil and see if I notice a difference in my hair, skin and nails. I have never really had problem skin, and my nails are quite strong and grow long so hopefully it pumps all the goodness into my hair!

The Science-y bit aka What's In It:
Grape seed extract: to help maintain a healthy complexion
Natural Plant Carotenoids: Antioxidants for the skin
Natural Vitamin E and Iron: Vital factors for the maintenance and good condition of hair, skin and nails.

As you can see the pill is quite big it is recommended you take it on a full stomach, after your main meal with a glass of water. You can buy Perfectil in most pharmacies and chemists. Boots definitely stock it.

Hopefully I'll see you back here on the 21st of April with an update, and maybe noticeably longer/healthier locks ;-) Who knows! Stay Tuned. Be sure to head over to www.facebook.com/bloggingitbeautiful to catch the competition giveaway of a 4 week supply of Perfectil and some other goodies.

No Makeup Selfie

The last few days a new viral trend has blown up on social media sites. The trend is that of the 'No Makeup Selfie.' Girls post photos of themselves on social media sites with no makeup on, donate on average €4 to the Irish Cancer Society or Action Breast Cancer and urge others to do the same.

It's fantastic to see such a positive thing that is raising awareness of breast cancer, reminding women to check themselves and donating money to such a worthy cause at the same time. It definitely makes a change from the #Neknominations and seems to have caught on more than the #Raknominations.

Here's my no makeup selfie below!

As is usual with everything that seems to go viral, there have been naysayers commenting on how the no makeup selfie alone is not helping anyone. They have been proved to be wrong as donations to the Irish Cancer Society have soared in the last 48 hours to over €500,000.

If you want to take part, I urge you to donate to one of the cancer research societies. You can do this online or via text by texting PINK to 50300 to donate €4 now.

One in ten Irish women will get breast cancer but 8 out of 10 will survive thanks to breakthrough treatments, greater awareness and participation in screening.
Now go check your breasts!

Best of Beauty Treatments

How are all my lovely ladies this week? :-) I am full of the joys of spring as I arrived home after a stressful day to a gorgeous package of Emma's Eco Soy Candles. I am currently burning my Lemongrass scent and I will be sure to do up a blog post on how I get on between that and my wax melt!

So this week it is the penultimate week of the Best of Beauty blog challenge and while I have been late in posting once or twice I am delighted to have stuck with it and it has definitely introduced me more to the blogging community and given me some fantastic blogs to read! Thanks a bunch Sam, you really are a star! Check her blog out her at All the buzz

This weeks theme is Best of Beauty treatments. My ultimate favourite pamper treatment would be a massage and I had a fantastic one in Johnstown House Hotel. That wasn't today or yesterday, mind you!

I will be visiting Castlemartry Resort in a few weeks (5 star, v swanky don't ya know ;-) ) and I am planning on getting a massage there so I'll let ya know how they compare ladies.

I also love to do my nails. Cherry Sue has some fantastic DIY nail inspiration on her Facebook page so give her an aul search.

I am obsessed with Catrice nail polishes as they have a great colour range, fantastic colour names and are great value. I also love Penneys nails which you can see in two pics below. They only cost like €1.50 or €2 and to be honest if you apply them right, and file them they can look like the real deal!

Christmas nails that I DIY'd ;-)

Bows and sparkles, you name it, I'll wear it on my nails! Give Penney's nail range a check when you are next in store. Worth a few euro to jazz up your finger tips.

Til next week ladies! Follow the #bobblogchallenge on Twitter for more beauty banter! And like my Facebook page www.facebook.com/bloggingitbeautiful

Best of Budget Beauty

I've been very bold and left it late to post up my Best of Budget Beauty Blog Challenge, the week just ran away with me! Plus, I have blogged so much on my favourite budget beauty bargains so I felt like another post might be a bit redundant, until I decided I just had to share with you ladies the fabulousness that is CATRICE's gel liner brush.

Winner of an IMAGE Beauty Award in 2012, it is easy to see why~ this is the best gel liner brush I have used, and let me tell you there have been a few! It has an angled brush on one end which is perfect for filling in eyebrows, and then a thin liner brush on the other end. I prefer using the angled brush for getting defined flicks as I find the other end a bit fiddly to use.

This is great value, retailing at just €2.99 and available in Penneys and all good chemists. It's worth having another look at CATRICE's other makeup brush offerings as I've found this one to be fantastic.

I love my liner looks as you can tell! ;-)

Head on over to Twitter and follow the hashtag #BOBBlogChallenge for more beauty banter, and a big thanks to Sam at All the Buzz who is the beauty and the brains behind this blogging challenge.

You can find me  on Facebook over at Blogging it Beautiful ~ a cheeky like would be much appreciated!

Stay fabulous!

My ITEC Makeup Artistry Experience

Beauty School Dropout Graduate

I am delighted to announce I am now an ITEC qualified makeup artist. No one in my class achieved less than a merit in our overall assessments, and we will receive our certificate in mid April.

I thought I should probably do an updated blog post as I have just recently finished my course and since so many people were interested about it when I first talked about my journey to becoming a makeup artist here.
I thought it would be a good idea to let you all know how I got on and what to expect! :)

I completed a 16 week one evening a week ITEC in Beauty Makeup. I trained with Niamh Martin of Nimabrush, and you can find out about my course by clicking on Scoil Mhuire ITEC

We had our written theory exam last Tuesday: questions such as what is blepharitis came up, such is the beauty of the randomness of the ITEC. It is inflammation of the eyelid, just so ya know! ;-)

On Wednesday we had to bring a model in for our practical exam where we had to do a cleanse, tone, skin analysis and a day makeup.

The examiner also looked at all of our portfolios and graded them.

I have to say it was quite a nerve wracking experience doing the exam, as you have someone looking over your shoulder at your work and marking you, which is something I had never experienced.

The day makeup consists of foundation, concealer, blush, bronzer, eyebrows, mascara, liner, eyeshadow, lipliner, lipstick and lipgloss and there are marks for all of these so you have to attempt all and do not attempt to play it to safe even though it is day makeup. A wash of colour is acceptable but you are more likely to get higher marks for attempting a contoured eye and gel liner.

The two above photos would be good examples of a day makeup.

The main thing in an ITEC exam is hygiene. We had to decant all products onto a palette like the one below. You do this by using a wooden spatula or rubbing a cotton bud into the bronzer/powder/blush/eyeshadow to decant onto the palette. It's a bit tiresome but it is very hygienic.

The other thing is you must use disposable mascara wands, one for each eye. This is to prevent cross contamination and the client developing a stye or conjunctivitis.

You can also not touch the client's face and you must have a cotton pad or a tissue between the face at all times. A lot of artists don't actually work like this, but I see no harm in being extra cautious and hygienic! :-)

We had 30 minutes to complete a day makeup, and then the examiner came around to look at everyone's makeup. After our cleanse and tone, she actually got a cotton pad and wiped the clients face to make sure you had cleansed properly. Then she asked questions about skin type and what you would recommend for the client.

She also asked me why you would sharpen your eye pencils and lip liners, and also why we would use disposable wands: both answers are for improved hygiene purposes and to avoid cross contamination.

Once the exam is all over you will wonder what you were worrying about at all! If you have any questions that you would like answered just comment below or contact me via my Makeup Artistry page www.facebook.com/katiewheelermakeup artist

CATRICE Ultimate Colour Lipstick Review

I am a huuuuuge fan of red lippy, I adore the whole pin up look that goes along with red lippy and winged liner and so I have quite a few red lipsticks on rotation in my makeup bag.

This is the first time I have worn a non-matte red lipstick, and boy, did it get messy! First things first, I suggest you buy a red lip liner as all bright lip colours especially if they aren't matte tend to bleed. Rookie mistake number 1: I didn't line my lips.

I love the pigmented rich red of this lipstick. I would say it would err on the side of a pinky red. It is called My Red Card and is a CATRICE Ultimate Colour lipstick. I adore this brand and it was reduced to €2.25 in my local chemist! Such a bargain.

It gives a really lustrous finish and a makes my lips look like I got collagen, but I would HIGHLY recommend you line your lips to avoid looking like you were just shifting the face of someone.

Makeup of The Day Challenge

I'm sure I am not the only girl who gets stuck in a makeup rut every once and a while, where all you do is stick to the same makeup day in day out. There are all sorts of gorgeous colours, shades, contoured eyes, pigmented lippies we could wear so why don't we experiment?

I decided to challenge myself to create a different makeup look each day and anyone else who would like to join in is more than welcome! :) Upload your look to www.facebook.com/bloggingitbeautiful or onto Twitter using the hashtag #motd which stands for Makeup of The Day and include me in the Tweet, @KjWheelo

It would be great to see your creativity :-)

Today, I had to play it safe and keep my makeup rather tame as I had a job interview but I still chose colours I normally would never go for. I went for a purple smoky eye and a pink lip. I used different eye shades and a different blusher than I would normally go for, also a more natural lip.
Natural look with a wash of colour on the eyes for definition

What I used

MUA Shade Bare from Ever After Matte palette: palest pink matte shadow as base (not pictured)
GOSH Trio in Waterlily~ I used the purple shade
No7 Smoky Rose Quad~ I used the light purple on the lid, darker purple to contour and white shimmer to highlight
CATRICE Multi Colour Blush in 070 Iced Caramel Macchiato
CATRICE Ultimate Colour 240 in Hey Nude

Let me know what you think! #motd

Quirky Café Review: Primrose Place

I visited this quirky cute little café recently called Primrose Place and I must say I was so impressed! It is located in the village of Summerhill  Co.Meath, a place that most people would definitely just drove through. I am letting you in on a little foodie secret though- this place is well worth a stop off!

I went with my dad for a nice lunch out and I was won over by the décor. It is powder pink and light grey, the perfect mix. Girly, without being too overpowering to put off the male clientele. Teacups, and tea rooms is the overwhelming theme and I have a few snaps I took to give you an idea of the place, although the pics really don't do it justice! :)

The top photo is of the teacup chandelier that one of the café workers daughters made! She is obviously extremely talented, and the bottom photo is of a quirky selection of photo frames, tea cups, spoons and fancy plates. If I owned a café, this is exactly the homely, quirky yet comfortable décor I would be going for.

Even about the décor I hear you say, what about the FOOD? I had an extremely tasty baked potato with crispy bacon, cheese and chive filling. It came with the choice of two salads for €6.95, I had homemade coleslaw and a mixed rice salad. It was deeelish.
Look at me taking snaps of my food

My dad had the beef ciabatta I think which was on special. They had various specials on which were great value for money. They also had a very tasty looking Primrose breakfast that I think I might indulge in next time!

I also had a rocky road, which was made with crunchie, malteasers, melted chocolate and marshmellows. It gave me a serious sugar rush and my eyes were bigger than my stomach as I couldn't finish it.

It is definitely a little gem, and is well worth a visit!

Comment below if you go try it out, oh and let me know if you like reading foodie blogs :) It's nice to post them for a change

Til next time!

My Princess Product

What woman doesn't want glowing gorgeous skin like Cinderella? That's why my Princess product is Esteé Lauder's Double Wear Light foundation.

With week 5 of the #BOBBlogChallenge courtesy of Sam over at www.allthebuzz.co.uk being all about The Princess Product all I could think of was skin, skin, skin!
Once I have my foundation done to perfection I feel a million dollars, and the only time I have felt like that with foundation was when I was matched up at the counter and given a sample to run away and try before midnight, Esteé Lauder Double Wear foundation in Cool Bone, and Pale Almond for those princesses who like to tan!

I had never used this foundation before last Friday and I am officially a convert and bow down to the ravings of MUA's about the wonders of this foundation. It is the ONLY foundation I have ever worn that has lasted me 9 hours of running around Dublin city shopping and commuting. It could have lasted me another 3, if I hadn't had to obey the cardinal rule of taking my makeup off before bed.

Ladies, this foundation lasted a feast in Gourmet Burger, a stressed and starving Katie, an extremely busy Grafton Street...it is in a word, sha-mazing.

The blurb says, "Keeps skin looking fabulous, breathing comfortably through heat, humidity and activity without changing colour, fading or coming off on clothes. Natural matte finish and SPF10 sunscreen to protect skin."

No foundation, not even MAC has lasted me 9 hours with absolutely no budging around my nose and cheeks where I need the most coverage as I am blessed with the most Irish of skin tones. The shade cool bone is also a perfect match for my skin unlike MAC's Matchmaster in 1.5 which is actually not great but which, until I tried this Holy Grail of foundations, I was wearing everyday.

I will definitely be purchasing a full size bottle of Esteé Lauder's doublewear light foundation-when I run out of my MAC, hey I don't like to waste ;)

Esteé Lauder Doublewear Light Stay in Place foundation retails at €36.50 in Boots, which is well worth it. I wish I had a before and then a 9 hours after pic to prove the fabulousness! Might keep you updated with pics via Twitter ;) @KjWheelo and via Facebook www.facebook.com/bloggingitbeautiful

I am looking forward to reading all your Princess Products ladies!

Keep on blogging it beautiful xoxo
